Our Featured Architecture.

Globally, the number of IoT devices is expected to reach 29 billion by 2030, up from 9.7 billion in 2020. The transportation sector is ripe for disruption via this trend, as most IoT deployments today are found in industries including electricity, gas, steam, water supply, and waste management, as well as the wholesale and retail industry. For traffic operations, data silos, a lack of interoperability, and a resistance to change from NTCIP to “API ing” systems hinder advancements.

2M integrates products and services that provide open, self-documenting, and discoverable APIs. We support a developer-focused approach where any third party can assess documentation, test scenarios, and develop applications. Our approach enables integration and and interoperability, accelerates development and innovation, promotes scalability and flexibility, facilitates data exchange and AI, and drives growth and modernization.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT.

USDOT.

Data. Decisions. Actions.

2M Transformation Services was selected by the US Department of Transportation to assess the applicability of edge computing to better enable Roadway Digital Infrastructure. Our work includes the development of a data architecture that informs a national data strategy, promotes interoperability, and may be adopted by all practitioners that leverage modern readily-available sensor, compute, and analytics technologies.

Our work focuses on the feasibility of integrating edge computing applications and supporting technologies that process large amounts of real-time data at or near to the data source.

The architecture liberates data from siloed systems and makes it easier for automated processes to generate information and distribute it to anyone who needs it, when they need it.

"The data architecture and use cases developed for this research strongly support the cited national objectives of the current Administration:

Enhancing transportation safety, including bridges, safety for transportation workers and pedestrians, truck parking, and autonomous vehicles.

Accelerating project delivery for transportation projects, including reforming the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and permitting, enhancing One Federal Decision, and increasing the use of technology.

Increasing opportunities through investment in transportation infrastructure that promotes economic growth, including through expanded capacity and mobility, congestion relief, and more private sector investment. This includes BIM-based digital twins that incorporate operational sensor data to predict asset performance and maintenance needs, informing more cost-effective infrastructure investments, improve asset lifecycle performance, and decrease lifecycle costs.

Strengthening partnerships with states and other key stakeholders to improve transportation outcomes, including prioritizing the federal interest, greater efficiencies, and research.”
